Living Room Space Décor – Make Sure Your Sofa Talks to Your Chairs
Have you ever been in a beautiful hotel lobby and you feel like you are in a luxury home? I am sure that you notice that all the sofas and chairs surround the coffee table and are arranged in a group. This is the best way to invite conversation.
When you place the furniture in your living room, you should aim to have the same sense of intimacy and harmony and most of all balance.
Create the U-Shape or the H- Share Conversation Area in Your Living Room
What does a conversation area in your living room look like? The U-Shape formula is an arrangement where a sofa is on one side and the two chairs face each other. It can also be a formula where you have a corner sofa and then one feature armchair facing the corner. The middle area is where the coffee-table .
The H-Shape Formula on the other hand is when you place a large sofa directly facing the two chairs opposite with a coffee table in the middle. The H-Shape Formula cannot be created with a corner sofa, but the two single seaters can be replaced by a two seater with a side table next to it.
These arrangements are great to achieve the scope of a living area – which as the name implies is the area where family and friends meet, live and have conversation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Setting up your Living Room Furniture
One common mistake that new Home–Owners make is that they push all the furniture against the walls.
This happens because most people think that a room looks much bigger. But the truth is exactly the opposite. When the furniture floats away from the walls – the rooms actually look much larger. Try it out.
A Great Tip to Increase Space in Your Living Room
At Orienta Home we probably have the best selection of living room mirrors on the Island of Malta.
Mirrors can make a space feel much larger and definitely much brighter because they reflect the light around the room. Hanging a large mirror in the living room can create a considerable amount of space and light.
Tip: Be careful to place the mirror in the right spot. Placing the mirror in the wrong spot can be worse than not hanging a mirror at all.
Mirrors should always be placed on walls in a perpendicular way to windows. Never hang a mirror directly across a window. The reason is that the mirror will bounce the light back out to the window and you will defeat the scope of enlarging and lightening up the room.
More Living Room Tips – Get the Right Paintings for your Walls
There is nothing worse than entering a room and seeing a pokey little painting on a large wall. Or having a small wall completely smothered with a huge painting.
Remember also to hang paintings at eye level. The middle of a painting should always be your focal point. The colour scheme of a painting should compliment the décor of the room where it is hung. Mind that we are using the word compliment and not necessary match. If you are not sure about the colours of a painting here is one great tip:
Pick the colour swatch of the wall paint and see whether in that scale of colours you can find one complimenting colour that is also present in your chosen artwork. If there is, you are good to go.
Take into account that if you have a large wall you will need one oversized painting or artwork and a group of smaller pieces and hang them gallery style. If you are going for a group of paintings or pictures or even photos, don’t space them too far apart. 5-7cm spacing between them usually has the best effect.
